UFC's Anderson Silva: Mauricio Rua "Lucky" To Get Title Shot
By: Chad Edward Posted On: August 3, 2009 at 8:18amUFC middleweight champion “Spider” Anderson Silva (24-4) told Gazeta Do Povo that light heavyweight title challenger “Shogun” Mauricio Rua (18-3) got lucky to get a title shot versus Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Dragon” Ryoto Machida (15-0) at UFC 104 in Los Angeles 24 October.
“Shogun doesn’t deserve to fight for the belt,” Silva charged. “[He] got lucky because the two [fighters] who could challenge Lyoto are making the reality show.”
Former UFC light heavyweight champions “Sugar” Rashad Evans (13-1-1) and “Rampage” Quinton Jackson (28-7) are serving as coaches on the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Rua ascended to title contention after knocking out long-time champ and UFC Hall of Famer “Iceman” Chuck Liddell (21-7) at UFC 97 in Montreal last April.
Silva also stated his intention to box former boxing champion Roy Jones, Jr. when his commitment to the UFC has ended and that contracts have already been signed for the bout.
Silva will fight former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin (16-5) at UFC 101 in Philadelphia Saturday.

Hey Gabe and all y’all fools, I hope you watched the fight and saw Forrest get destroyed. Anderson showed the world that he can be just as dominant at 205 as he has been at 185. Shogun would be a cakewalk after how easily it was for him to end Forrest’s career tonite and send him literally running out of the arena. You all need to shut the fuck up and have some respect for the greatest middleweight champ of all time.
