UFC light heavyweight Phil Davis is a former NCAA champion wrestler and four-time All-American. Though impressive accomplishments to be sure, UFC 163 opponent Lyoto Machida isn’t fazed by Davis’ success on the mat and for good reason too given his record against wrestlers.
The 19-3 Machida owns past wins over the likes of Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture, Ryan Bader, Dan Henderson, and Rashad Evans – all of whom were above-average wrestlers to say the least. “The Dragon” spoke about his success against past opponents with a background similar to Davis’ during a recent interview with UFC.com, promising an entertaining effort in tomorrow night’s tilt.
“I have always fought well against wrestlers, so I’m comfortable.”
“(Fans) can expect a great fight, a battle. It won’t be an easy fight, but they can expect a great performance on my return to Brazil.”
“I believe that after beating Davis there is no discussion about who is the number one contender.”
