Demian Maia meeting Rick Story at UFC 153

The UFC doesn’t appear interested in giving Demian Maia a break at welterweight after the Brazilian submission-specialist was already forced to face Dong Hyun Kim in his divisional debut. This time around Maia will mix it up with Rick Story, a 14-5 stand-out who was previously on the cusp of a title-shot before losing by decision in a last-second scrap.

Working in Maia’s favor, however, is the fact the fight will take place in Brazil on October 13 at UFC 153. The show is headlined by featherweight champion Jose Aldo putting his gold up for grabs against Erik Koch.

Maia holds an overall record of 16-4 with eleven finishes including eight by way of submission. In addition to beating Kim, Maia has found past success against the likes of and Kendall Grove, Dan Miller, and Chael Sonnen.

Story also exited his last bout with a hand raised, picking up a Unanimous Decision against Brock Jardine at UFC on FX 4. The 27-year old also holds wins over Johny Hendricks and Thiago Alves.
