It seems very few people have given light heavyweight contender Dan Henderson more than a puncher’s chance against divisional king Jon Jones in their upcoming fight this Fall. However, Henderson is a decorated competitor with Olympic-level wrestling, knockout power, and an iron chin. He’s also a seasoned veteran with wins against some of MMA’s all-time greats including Wanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Fedor Emelianenko.
Despite his accomplishments, Henderson will still enter the September 1 scrap as an underdog. Of course, such a scenario sounds fine to the fan-favorite.
“I’m not your average 40-year old. I’m looking forward to being able to go out there and prove a lot of people wrong,” said Henderson in an interview with MMAFighting. “Everybody has holes in their game. There are a number of things that I can exploit and he hasn’t fought anybody like me…I’m gonna make sure to put him on his back and we haven’t seen him there so we’ll see how that goes.”
Henderson-Jones are set to face off in the main event at UFC 151. “Hendo” has won seven of his last eight fights including four in a row, while Jones is defending his belt for the fourth time with past success against Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, and Lyoto Machida.
