Another loss in a title-fight may have left fans wondering about the future of popular UFC bantamweight Urijah Faber but not “The California Kid”. Faber fell on the scorecards to surging contender – now interim champion – Renan Barao at UFC 149, appearing to be undersized and overmatched throughout the bout. However, the Team Alpha Male patriarch simply credited Barao’s ability with being the difference in their main event meeting rather than an issue with physical proportions.
“No way,” said the 5’6” Faber at the post-event presser when asked about possibly dropping down another ten pounds. “I put on 18 pounds (after the weigh-ins), and I would probably not be here if I was trying to get to 125. No, 135 is where I’ll be.”
Faber Takes Every Fight Personal
The loss to Barao dropped Faber’s record at 135 pounds to 3-2 with the other stumble involving a decision loss to linear title-holder Dominick Cruz. Also worth mentioning, Faber is 5-5 in his previous ten tilts with all of the defeats coming in title-fights.
Faber is expected to spend a little time on the sidelines before assessing potential opponents due to a broken rib he sustained in the loss to Barao.
