Former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva told fans on the mic at the MGM Grand Garden Arena after UFC 162: Silva Vs Weidman that he was not interested in a rematch with Chris Weidman, and even stated that he wasn’t interested in fighting for a belt ever again. Days after the fight, the old saying “you should take what a guy says right after a loss with a grain of salt” is holding true. Reports are now coming that not only does Silva want the fight to happen, he wants the fight to happen this year.
Rumors of Silva wanting to fight Weidman again started swirling on Sunday, the day after the fight, and the theme of the rumors has been not only does Silva want the fight but he would take it next week if the UFC offered it to him. To add even more to the rumors, UFC President Dana White told NBC Sports this rematch IS going to happen.
UFC President Dana White told NBC Sports:
I’m flying to LA next week to go talk to Silva… Yes I do expect the rematch. Anderson Silva is going to get knocked out again by reality in a few days, and he is going to want to do this fight again.
Actually, I’m looking to do the rematch THIS year. There is going to be a rematch. There is no way we don’t do this rematch.
