Frankie Edgar believed in Corey Anderson, making him the top light heavyweight pick on The Ultimate Fighter 19 season.
He continued to show confidence in Anderson, setting him up with his father-in-law to stay close to Edgar and train for the finale against Matt Van Buren.
Anderson made it all pay off, scoring a first round TKO victory over Van Buren and becoming The Ultimate Fighter champion Saturday night at the TUF 19 Finale.
“I want to cry, but I can’t do it on camera,” Anderson said. “Frankie Edgar’s father-in-law let me move in, stay with him for free, never ask for anything so I could train every day with Frankie.
“This means so much to me. It feels great. Everything I told my family, coaches…I was going to do it. I left home and told them I was going to come back the champion.”
Anderson earned a pair of decision victories on the show, including a three-round win over Patrick Walsh in the semifinals. He is now 5-0 in his career, while Van Buren drops to 6-3.
