End Of The Road For BJ Penn Following Tough Loss

Former UFC champion BJ Penn looked like a shell of his old self Sunday night, falling via third round TKO to Frankie Edgar at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale.

The stoppage loss was the first for Penn since Georges St-Pierre forced his corner to throw in the towel in 2009. Prior to that, the only other fighter to stop Penn was Matt Hughes in 2006.

“Frankie did a great job,” Penn said. “I shouldn’t have come back against a top-level fighter like Frankie. I gotta agree (with Dana White) at this point (and retire).”

Penn hadn’t competed in almost two years, as he debated making a return after a loss to Rory MacDonald. His most recent win came in 2010 when he floored Hughes via knockout at UFC 123. His mother and father were in attendance, and Penn was very emotional walking out to the Octagon.
