UFC president Dana White cleared up a few things following The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale Sunday night, appearing on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show.

The card, which brought a conclusion to International Fight Week in Las Vegas, likely also brought an end to the fighting career of BJ Penn.

Penn was soundly defeated by Frankie Edgar in the main event, suffering just the third stoppage loss of his career. The former UFC champion was competing for the first time in over a year.

“I didn’t want to see him fight (Sunday), but he wanted it, and I respect him,” White said. “He’s got it all, he’s one of two guys who have two belts in two weight classes. He’s fought in all the big fights, he’s made a lot of money, he’s got a beautiful wife and family. He’s got his own gym, what more do you want?”

During his post-fight interview, Penn stopped short of announcing his own retirement, but hinted that White was correct in previously stating he should remain on the sidelines.

“I don’t think he wants to say the R word. A lot of them don’t. I’ll sit down with his family and we’ll talk,” White stated. “BJ Penn is going to always have a home in the UFC. He’s our partner in the UFC gym and we’ll do things together in the future.”

As for Edgar, a former lightweight champion himself and one-time contender in the featherweight division, he might be waiting for the right fight to pop up. Jose Aldo was forced to postpone a planned title defense with Chad Mendes, but will only be out for a little while.

“Frankie is the No. 3 ranked fighter in the division. This was a great tune up fight for him,” White said. “People want to see him fight Chad Mendes now that Aldo is sidelined. But Aldo is sidelined for 45 days, so he can still fight Mendes.”
