It would probably be safe to assume every member of the MMA media and fan worth a lick has given his/her assessment of Anderson Silva’s title-defense against Chael Sonnen in 2010. The match-up has been dissected countless times by countless individuals. However, until now Sonnen himself hasn’t given his own take on the near-victory.
Sonnen relayed his thoughts back on the bout as it unfolded in front of him on this week’s episode of UFC Ultimate Insider.
“The strategy if you’re in the middle of a fist fight in a steel cage is to go get into a fist fight in the middle of a steel cage. And to have a dance-off, or different things that Anderson is an absolute master of getting guys to buy into..that’s just not gonna happen on my watch. I’m gonna come across the ring and I’m gonna get in a fight,” explained Sonnen of his surprising ability to strike with Silva in the match-up.“On day one you learn to keep your hands out, and he comes out like an amateur, he gets treated like an amateur.”
Whether Sonnen will have the same success against Silva this Saturday night at UFC 148 remains to be seen.
