UFC middleweight Vitor Belfort has done everything in his power to secure another shot at the divisional belt, beating his last four opponents at 185 pounds in highlight-reel fashion. However, “The Phenom” may be left out in the cold when it comes to the next crack at the belt.
UFC President Dana White recently revealed champ Anderson Silva would have his pick of opponent regardless of how he fares this weekend against Chris Weidman. Win, and Silva will face a new contender, Georges St-Pierre, or Jon Jones. Lose, and Silva will be given a rematch.
Now, White has confirmed Belfort isn’t one of the few fighters Silva is even considering for a future match-up, telling MMAJunkie...
“He’s looked great, but the hard position that Vitor is in is when you talk about a rematch for him, it’s like, [Silva] kicked him in the face in the first 60 seconds in one of the most devastating knockouts of all-time. So when you go back to Anderson Silva, who’s in the twilight of his career, and you say to a guy like Anderson, ‘Eh, what about Vitor?’ He’d say, ‘I annihilated Vitor. I made it look like Vitor isn’t even a fighter we should have been fighting.’”
