UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva is typically a soft-spoken, even-keeled competitor who approaches his craft in the cage purely as a professional rather than a means of settling personal scores. However, in the case of rival Chael Sonnen the story has been a bit different with Silva recently flying off the handle during a conference call with media and issuing a number of threats to his nemesis.
The trend continued this week during a press conference to promote their main event match-up at UFC 148 where Silva remained intent on injuring Sonnen during their bout and even had to be held back during the standard staredown segment.
Silva wasted little time getting physical with Sonnen, immediately going chest-to-chest with the trash-talking Oregonian and pushing him backward in the process. After being separated, Silva swam his way past UFC President Dana White and security to get back in Sonnen’s face and had to be restrained to the point Sonnen ultimately was made to leave the stage out of concern for his safety.
