Former UFC featherweight title contender Ricardo Lamas got back to his winning ways behind wrestling Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 44, but it might have come with a serious injury.
Lamas, who scored a decision over Hacran Dias, stated he felt like he broke his hand early in the fight. Lamas (14-3) could be seen looking at his right hand between rounds, and left the cage holding it gingerly.
“I wanted to get back to my roots,” he said. “Wrestling is what got me to the UFC, so I wanted to work my takedown game a little more.”
The 32-year-old from Chicago was handed a decision loss at the hands of Jose Aldo this past February, snapping his four-fight win streak. Lamas is now 5-2 in seven UFC fights since coming over from the WEC.
For Dias, the loss dropped him to 21-3-1 overall. He has lost his last two, having also been defeated by Nik Lentz.
