It’s pretty common for fighters to get drug tested after a tilt or be subjected to the occasional “out of competition” screening. However, UFC heavyweight Dave Herman’s immediate future took a strange turn today when “Pee Wee” went in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission to apply for a license to compete next weekend at UFC 162.
Herman, coming off a suspension for marijuana use, attempted to earn the regulatory board’s favor by expressing confidence in his ability to pass a drug test even if issued immediately. According to MMAJunkie, the NAC was agreeable to those terms and told him he could be cleared to compete if returning a drug-free result beforehand.
Herman is scheduled to face Gabriel Gonzaga at the July 6 show. He holds an overall record of 21-5 but will likely be cut if defeated based on losses in his last three efforts.
