Whether it will be his last-hurrah or not, Dan Henderson is returning to the middleweight division.

Henderson’s manager, Daniel Woirin, told MMAFighting.com recently that the former Strikeforce champion will compete at 185 pounds. He is hopeful for a bout before 2014 ends.

Henderson (30-12), who will turn 44 years old this August, was submitted for the fourth time in his career by Daniel Cormier this past May. He has gone just 1-4 in his last five fights overall, including a knockout loss – the first of its kind – to Vitor Belfort and split decision defeats at the hands of Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida.

The last time “Hendo” fought at 185 pounds inside the Octagon he scored a memorable knockout win over Michael Bisping at UFC 100. His last middleweight fight came against Jake Shields for the Strikeforce title, a bout he lost via decision in 2010.

Henderson fought three more times for Strikeforce at various weights, including heavyweight in 2011 when he knocked out Fedor Emelianenko. He returned to the UFC later that year and defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

The former U.S. Olympic team wrestler weighed in at 199 pounds prior to his fight with Cormier, well under the light heavyweight limit of 205.
