Canadian-born middleweight Ivan Salaverry (12-7) is retiring from competition, he told Sherdog Monday.
Fighting is no longer a priority for Salaverry. He said, “Even though I love fighting and I had a great run and I enjoyed it, I’ve transitioned to other things.”
Those “other things” include his gym in downtown Seattle and his two sons.
Salaverry fulfilled his contract with Zuffa with his last fight, a first-round armbar loss to “Toquinho” Rousimar Palhares (8-1) at UFC 84 in May.
Salaverry also cited age (he is 37) and lingering injuries as factors in his decision.

Ivan has been a respectable fighter. Maybe we will see him coaching guys into the UFC in the future.
