We’re now only a few days away from Bellator 46. Bellator’s return to MTV2 after a bit of a hiatus will mark the beginning of a new “Summer Series”, featuring an eight-man Featherweight tournament. All four opening-round bouts of that tournament take place at Bellator 46, with notable names like Pat Curran, Marlon Sandro, and Ronnie Mann filling the card. As is customary, here is my official “picks and predictions” post (covering who I think will win and why), now featuring Bellator 46.
Marlon Sandro vs. Genair da Silva: It’s tough to pick against Marlon Sandro, who is 3-1 in his last four with all three victories by first-round KO. Then again, da Silva is on a five-fight win-streak with three TKO’s and one submission. Personally, I’ve never seen either man fight so I can only guess as to who would win this fight. With that said, I think Sandro has faced and beaten more notable competition in Sengoku, while da Silva has only been fighting in lesser promotions across Brazil. It’ll be a tough fight, but Marlon Sandro will end up winning by (T)KO in Round 2 at the latest.
Pat Curran vs. Luis Palomino: I was very impressed by Pat Curran’s performance against Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 39: while Curran did ultimately lose, I think you could make a serious case for Curran giving Alvarez the toughest time he’s ever had in Bellator. But to Palomino’s credit, he’s won six of his last seven bouts and does have experience in Bellator, although his record in the promotion isn’t the best and it has been several months since he’s been in a Bellator cage. I think Palomino will make the fight competitive, but ultimately Curran’s versatility and high-level status will prevail. Pat Curran wins by Unanimous Decision.
Adam Schindler vs. Ronnie Mann: Ronnie Mann was one of the stars of the Bellator 42 event, completely dominating his opponent and putting the entire Bellator Featherweight roster on notice. But Adam Schindler is 9-1 and has submitted three of his last five opponents, with all three being first-round submissions. But Ronnie Mann has only been submitted one time in over twenty fights. Mann’s recent track record sees him going the distance a lot, so that’s what I predict is going to happen here. Ronnie Mann will control Schindler, even dominate him at times, and eventually win by Unanimous Decision.
Nazareno Malegarie vs. Jacob Devree: This fight looks like it will be a very interesting encounter between two hot prospects hungry for their shot at a big-time promotion. Malegarie did lose his Bellator debut to eventual tournament finalist Daniel Straus, but he gave a very exciting performance and it was a very close fight. Even though Devree has won a lot lately, something tells me that this will be the fight that Malegarie’s debut should have been, with him putting on a great display of his skills and really establishing himself as one of Bellator’s best “young guns”. Malegarie wins by submission in Round 1.
And that’s what I think, fans and friends.
