The UFC welterweight division just got an injection of high-level talent thanks to Hector Lombard’s decision to move down from 185 pounds. The possibility of Lombard’s drop had been rumored for weeks though “Lightning” wanted to make sure his body could handle the cut before committing to the endeavor.
UFC Tonight was first to confirm Lombard’s change of scenery.
The 35-year old Lombard holds an overall record of 32-4-1 including wins over Alexander Shlemenko, Rousimar Palhares, and James Te Huna. However, he is only 1-2 in the Octagon, losing Split Decisions to Tim Boetsch and most recently Yushin Okami.
It was also reported that Lombard is seeking a match-up with Nate Marquardt. No date/event were revealed in terms of when he is targeting his welterweight debut.
