Mike Tyson says he’s heading back to the ring

Following an ultra controversial decision that saw unbeaten Timothy Bradley awarded with Manny Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight championship after clearly losing a majority of the twelve rounds, several boxing fans are on the brink of kicking the sport to the curb like a bad date that puked on their lap after a late-night drunken escapade to their local Wal-Mart.

Boxing just isn’t what it used to be. Gone are the days of Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, etc…well, maybe not Tyson. According to a recent video promo produced by the Heyman Hustle, the former undisputed heavyweight champion is “getting back in the ring”.

Whether or not this means “Iron Mike” is actually returning to professional boxing remains to be seen. At 45 years old, Tyson is no spring chicken but if he truly is stepping back into the ring this might be just the thing that boxing needs.

Tyson is arguably the hardest hitting bad ass to ever step foot in a boxing ring. Technique and precision isn’t his cup of tea. In fact, if you tried to serve Tyson a cup of tea he’d probably punch a hole in your face and bite your ear off for good measure.

When it comes to fighting, Tyson’s mean, nasty and constantly looking to knock his opponent’s head into the fifth row. He certainly isn’t in his prime nor is he expected to contend against the best heavyweights at this stage of his career but he is still a man that people would pay money to see put the old gloves on and, as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would say, open up a can of whoop ass.

Speaking of which, perhaps “getting back in the ring” doesn’t necessarily mean Tyson is returning to boxing. Think about it, Tyson has always been a massive fan of professional wrestling. He stole the show at Wrestlemania 14 making the three-count for Austin and punching out Shawn Michaels.

Maybe Tyson is heading back to the WWE but this time as a full-on performer? Or, possibly, Tyson is preparing to be digitized as a video game character and virtually dominate the upcoming WWE 13 video game?
