Former Strikeforce champ Rafael Cavalcante suspended for a year after failing a drug test

The already-thin Strikeforce roster has lost another star due to suspension for a banned substance, as news has surfaced stating Rafael Cavalcante tested positive for an undisclosed drug and will have to sit on the sidelines until next summer. He was also fined $2,500 for the transgression.

The test “Feijao” failed came in relation to a May knockout of Mike Kyle. The victory was expected to thrust him into a match-up for the still-vacant light heavyweight title later this year, though clearly that is now off the table.

News of Cavalcante’s status was first reported by MaxBoxing with other outlets since confirming the situation. The 12-3 Brazilian is expected to appeal the CSAC’s findings.
