Rarely does an injury produce a superior pairing to the one preceding it but in the case of this weekend’s co-headliner at ShoFights 20 such a sight will be on display after it was revealed journeyman Terry Martin had been replaced by unbeaten Strikeforce middleweight Derek Brunson in a match-up with UFC veteran Kendall Grove. The severity of Martin’s injury was not revealed.

News of the bout was confirmed by ShoFights officials.

The 9-0 Brunson hasn’t fought since November when he picked up his third win in Strikeforce. He was set to face Ronaldo Souza earlier this year but ran into an issue with licensing in relation to his contact lenses. Seven of his victories have involved a stoppage including a nice balance between TKOs (four) and submissions (three).

Brunson Breaks Down Licensing Issue

Grove is a familiar name to seasoned fans based on his TUF 3 championship and subsequent scraps inside the Octagon including success against Evan Tanner and Alan Belcher. He holds an overall record of 14-10 with eight by way of submission.

Brunson-Grove takes place this Saturday night on a card also featuring appearances from Lyle Beerbohm, Drew Fickett, and Karo Parisyan. It will be available for viewing for free in Canada through the Fight Network or PPV elsewhere.
