In the wake of Timothy Bradley’s extremely controversial decision victory over one of the most talented and beloved stars in the world of boxing, Manny Pacquiao, the combat sports community is in an uproar of anger and disgust. Fans, fighters and even some high profile celebrities have taken to Twitter to voice their frustrations with the decision and the entire sport of boxing as a whole.
Kim Kardashian of all people tweeted about the result of the fight so that right there should tell you something dirty and filthy is going on in the boxing world right now. On a recent episode of Rebellion MMA Radio, Mitch Ciccarelli and Bryan Levick asked MMA legend Frank Shamrock his thoughts on the boxing controversy.
As a former UFC and Strikeforce champion, Shamrock certainly understands combat sports and can explain it in a better perspective than some random celebrity on social media sites.
“Boxing is in a state of confusion, I think. They’ve had a lot of years where people were just double dipping in the pot. Promoters and producers were just taking advantage of the boxing model and it has gotten so confusing now,” Shamrock told Rebellion MMA Radio.
“People don’t know what to expect and I don’t watch too much of it anymore because it doesn’t make a lot of sense.”
Obviously, boxing and MMA are two very different entities and neither sport is perfect when it comes to judging. We see terrible decisions in high profile UFC bouts on a regular basis but Shamrock believes MMA is a much more appealing sport to today’s fight fan regardless.
“The good thing with MMA is that you get a conclusion every time. They go in, they fight, someone wins and someone loses. It’s easy to figure out and there’s none of this controversy and confusion.”
