Demetrious Johnson headed under the knife due to hernia

Flyweight title-contender Demetrious Johnson looked as sharp as he ever has against Ian McCall last Friday night at UFC on FX 3. Adding to how impressive his performance was, “Mighty Mouse” also apparently suffered a hernia at some point during the match-up and still soldiered on to ultimately pick up the Unanimous Decision win.

Unfortunately, the injury will also force Johnson to undergo surgery and keep him out of action for awhile, creating a cloud of uncertainty now hovering over his eventual match-up with fellow 125-pound tournament finalist Joseph Benavidez.

“(I’m going to) get that taken care of and just get my injuries out of the way. I don’t want to go off and fight and prolong it. It’s very uncomfortable when I’m standing here or doing anything. So I just wanna get it taken care of and be able move forward in my career and be able to get that strap around my waist,” said Johnson while a guest on this week’s episode of Inside MMA.

The 25-year old expects to get his procedure done this Friday. No timetable was mentioned for his return.
