Mark Munoz was removed from the official UFC rankings, as his contract expired following a recent loss to Gegard Mousasi. The MMA Report stated in an email received from Fight Metric, the hosting site for the rankings, the news.
In a statement to the site, the UFC said, “Mark is no longer under contract at this time. However, we are negotiating towards a new agreement.”
Munoz (13-5) was finished by Mousasi and is also coming off a knockout defeat to Lyoto Machida. In his last four fights overall, he is just 1-3, having also been stopped by current middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
During the fight with Mousasi, Munoz suffered a torn MCL and sprained ACL. He is currently rehabbing the injuries, with no timetable set for a return to action.
The latest UFC official rankings should be released later today.
UPDATE: Munoz responded to a question on Twitter regarding his removal from the rankings, posting, “I have a grade 3 tear in my MCL and a strained ACL. So I’ll be out for a while.”
