A quartet of capable 155-pound competitors has been added to Strikeforce’s upcoming show on July 14 in Portland, Oregon in the form of bouts between Jorge Masvidal-Justin Wilcox and Ryan Couture-Joe Duarte.
The show is highlighted by twin title-fights featuring middleweight champion Luke Rockhold defending his belt against Tim Kennedy and Tyron Woodley-Nate Marquardt battling for Strikeforce’s vacant welterweight strap. Other notable match-ups include Lorenz Larkin-Robbie Lawler and Roger Gracie-Keith Jardine.
Couture is 4-1 since following in his famous father’s footsteps by turning pro. He has come out with his hand raised in his last two outings in comparison to the 10-2 Duarte’s five-fight run.
Masvidal (22-7) was last seen meeting lightweight king Gilbert Melendez for the divisional belt last December, losing by decision and suffering a hand injury in the process. Prior to the stumble he’d won consecutive bouts over Billy Evangelista and KJ Noons. Meanwhile, Wilcox (11-4) is coming off a knockout loss to Caros Fodor which snapped a six-fight winning streak for “The Silverback”.
