“Shogun” Rua booked against Brandon Vera in UFC on FOX 4 headliner

It didn’t take long for the UFC to address the vacancy at the top of UFC on FOX 4 after a bout between Brian Stann-Hector Lombard fell apart for injury-related reasons. Late last night the organization announced former light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua had signed to fight Brandon Vera in the card’s main event on August 4.

The match-up was confirmed by the UFC, though no update was given in terms of Lombard’s status, meaning the former Bellator middleweight title-holder is still waiting for an adversary to make his Octagon debut against now that Stann is out of the picture.

The 20-6 Rua was scheduled to face Thiago Silva at UFC 149 before his Brazilian countryman went down due to injury. He has not fought since this past November when he met with Dan Henderson in an instant-classic at UFC 139.

Comparably, Vera was supposed to scrap with James Te Huna at UFC on Fuel 4 before being paired with “Shogun”. He holds an overall record of 12-5 with past wins over Keith Jardine and Frank Mir.

Other bouts at UFC on FOX 4 include Ben Rothwell-Travis Browne, Joe Lauzon-Terry Etim, and Lyoto Machida-Ryan Bader.
