Slice: "This shit is personal now."

Posted On: June 6, 2008 at 7:59am

“I’ve got to fight ["The Grim" Brett Rogers (7-0)] now, man.  This man just called me out,” “Kimbo Slice” Kevin Ferguson (3-0) told The Dan Le Batard Show Thursday.

Slice was referring to Rogers’s post-fight comments last weekend in Newark, outside of New York City, in which he referred to Slice as “garbage”, even questioning Slice’s manhood.

Slice won a third-round TKO over “Colossus” James Thompson (14-9) and Rogers TKO’d Jon Murphy (4-3).

Slice referred to Rogers’s outburst as a marketing ploy, saying, “He’s going to get big money to fight me.  From a business point of view, who’s ever in his ear, they did their part.”

The fight will “probably be in October,” Slice added.

Yeah, I don’t think Rogers is too far off from the truth. I expect Slice to throw 10 slow and heavy punches and then weeze and stumble until he can get enough wind to throw 3 more. I get sleepy just thinking about him fighting. I remain unimpressed.

    P.S.
Rogers is 7-0 with 6 KOs and 1 sub. ALL occurring in the first round. He KO’d James Thompson in the first round earlier this year. Kimbo is in for a very rude awakening. The Gravy train may be pulling into the station.

Kimbo came a long way. Needs more cardio and little more ground game. He gets his cardio down, he may take rogers. but then again rogers is a 2nd rate fighter…get his lights put out in the UFC!

I’m not impressed with Kimbo. Don’t get me wrong, he is a very bad dude but in mixed martial arts, he is a joke. He should not have won the fight against Thompson. If kimbo would not have been there main attraction and had so much money behind him, they would have called that fight. Thompson was raining down punches on slice and slice would not defend himself at one time. I’ve also watched a kimbo fight where he would not listen to the ref and threw his mouth piece into the crowd. These actions are not what the sport needs. I don’t have anything against kimbo but I don’t think he appreciates or respects martial arts. Maybe in time he will? If he were to fight a quality fighter I am sure he would struggle against a Mir, Sylvia, Lesner, Fedor (would killllll kimbo), Cro Cop, the list goes on. I do think he has come a long way but far, far, far from being a main event.

You included Brock Lesnar in your list of “quality” fighters? Do you think he respects MMA? After pointing and laughing at one of the respected veterans of the sport, Heath Herring, after beating him? I think Slice acts more respectfully than Lesnar has.
