Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney doesn’t see a jumbled mess when he looks at the current state of the lightweight division.

Eddie Alvarez is the reigning champion, recovering from a head injury suffered in training. Will Brooks wears the interim title, which he won from Michael Chandler, an ex-Bellator champion himself.

However, the problem stems from the contract Alvarez signed when he returned to Bellator. It states that his next fight will be against Chandler. That was suppose to go down last month before the injury.

On Twitter, all three have been jockeying for better positioning with fans and fighters by stating their case. Where does Rebney see it all going? He told The MMA Report in a recent interview.

“You will either see Ed fight Mike again or you will see Ed fight Will,” he said. “These are good problems to have. When you have too much depth at 155….We have some unbelievably talented ’55ers here and now you got an over-abundance of riches.

“Those are the two options and the final decision has not been made yet, but you can’t go wrong on either one of these fights.”

No timetable has been set for Alvarez to return to action. Brooks earned a decision victory over Chandler, while Alvarez and Chandler have split their two prior meetings.
