Bellator’s heavyweight division got a dose of legitimacy this week with the signing of UFC veteran Cheick Kongo. The 38-year old striker’s deal with the UFC recently expired and, rather than take a reduced offer to re-sign, Kongo opted to follow teammate Quinton Jackson to Bellator.
MMAWeekly was first to report Kongo’s contract. No date/opponent have been linked to his debut.
Kongo (18-8-2) has finished fifteen of his foes including ten by knockout. He owns past wins over the likes of Mirko Filipovic, Pat Barry, and Matt Mitrione.
