Junior dos Santos thinks Cain Velasquez is more dangerous than Daniel Cormier

With a successful title-defense in the rear-view mirror UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos has been able to turn his attention to his next challenge. While no bout is set for his follow-up fight to beating Frank Mir late last month, the three most logical contenders are composed of Cain Velasquez, Alistair Overeem, and Daniel Cormier.

Velasquez is a former UFC champion coming off a one-sided win over Antonio Silva, Overeem was considered to be next in line before being suspended for testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone, and Cormier is coming off his Grand Prix title run in Strikeforce.

When asked to evaluate the three options on last week’s episode of MMA Uncensored Live, Dos Santos replied that Velasquez was more deserving than Overeem based on the Dutchman’s drug-related issue and also more of a threat than Cormier.

Dos Santos Believes Allowing Overeem to Fight for the Belt Would Be Disrespectful to MMA

“I think Cain Velasquez is better than him,” said Dos Santos. “Cormier for sure is good. He’s Strikeforce champion now. But I think Cain Velasquez is more dangerous.”

“In this division I think Cain Velasquez is the #2 cause I am the #1,” he added with a smirk.

All three potential contenders are currently sidelined with Cormier/Velasquez both suffering hand injuries in their latest outings and likely out until fall.
