Jake Ellenberger credits Martin Kampmann for his toughness, thought he had him beat

UFC welterweight Martin Kampmann has started to make a reputation for himself as an adversary who becomes increasingly dangerous as fights wear on and he absorbs more damage. Unfortunately for Jake Ellenberger he had to learn that first hand after Kampmann overcame an early flurry to earn a TKO stoppage in the second round of their scrap at the Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale.

Things were so dire for “The Hitman” in the opening frame even Ellenberger felt he had him on the brink of defeat after dropping him with a stiff left.

“I thought I had him. I had him hurt in the first round, but he’s tough,” admitted Ellenberger in a post-fight interview on Fuel TV. “I thought he was dazed, he was flashed a little bit, but he hung in there and it was his night.”

Ellenberger Not Overlooking Kampmann Leading Up to Fight

With a six-fight winning streak behind him the 27-6 Ellenberger will head to the gym as a man possessed to get back into the contendership picture. Though clearly disappointed, “The Juggernaut” is ready to prove exactly what he’s made of by using the loss to his advantage.

“I’m just gonna get back to work. It really shows your character in time of adversity. You go through stuff like this but I’ll be back. I know I’ll be back stronger. I’m gonna learn from this for sure.”
