As days go by, it’s sounding more and more like Johny Hendricks will be the next man to get into the cage with defending UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. With the dominant run that GSP has put together over his career, Hendricks understands that you just don’t jump in the octagon and take a belt from a storied fighter like GSP. While there is no date set, Hendricks says he knows he will have to beat St-Pierre twice before he will be able to call himself the champion.
Hendricks told MMAWeekly:
“I’m gonna have to beat him twice. Unless I knock him out. If I manhandle him for two round and I knock him out, then there won’t be a rematch. But if it’s a close fight or I go out and knock him out in the first minute, yeah, there’ll be a rematch.”
I’m so excited to finally get to the Octagon and look across and there’s Georges. That’s all I can think about. That’s all I dream about every day. Words can’t explain how excited I am.”
