UFC President Dana White has a lot on his mind these days after one of the most eventful periods in his organization’s history including injuries galore, arrests of Arianny Celeste, Ross Pearson, and Jon Jones, and NAC appearances from Chael Sonnen, Alistair Overeem, and Nick Diaz. As the outspoken executive has reminded the public on multiple occasions, a lot of his job is dealing with “bad sh*t” and he’s certainly been wading knee-deep in it for a few months.
White addressed a handful of topics in a recent interview with Inside MMA where spoke about Jones’ run-in with the law for DUI, Diaz’s issues with marijuana use, the futures of Gilbert Melendez/Strikeforce, and performance enhancing drugs.
Here are his takes on a few of those subjects followed by a complete video of the interview:
On Jones: “He’s a good kid. He made a stupid mistake. The thing about social drinking. Everybody’s done it. Everybody was at that age where they jumped in the car, drove home and the next day they said I can’t believe that I drove home last night. It’s a serious situation that happens here in the United States. I know for a fact Jon has learned from this and hopefully he can educate other people.”
On Diaz: “I want Nick Diaz to compete. I want Nick Diaz to fight in the UFC. But there are rules. And you have to follow the rules. You cannot smoke marijuana. I don’t care how many lawyers you get.”
On Melendez/Strikeforce: “Strikeforce is not going anywhere. And Gilbert Melendez is not going anywhere. He will fight again on Showtime.”
On PEDs: “Once you start using PEDs, it basically destroys you. You have to be on them forever. This is what we’re trying to eliminate in this sport.” / “I don’t think it’s as big of an issue as everybody’s making it out to be.”
