TUF lightweight champ Mac Danzig (18-4-1) will fight “The Carpenter” Clay Guida (29-9) at UFC 87 in Minneapolis on 9 August.; and, “The Answer” Frank Edgar (8-1) will fight a yet-to-be-named opponent on the same card, according to MMA Junkie.
Danzig, winner of The Ultimate Fighter 6, submitted his most recent opponent, Mark Bocek (5-2), at April’s UFC 83 via rear naked choke at 3:48 of the third round.

“The Carpenter” was tapped in a rear naked choke in the main event of The Ultimate Figher 6 by “El Matador” Roger Huerta (20-1-1), but TKO’d Frenchman Samy Schiavo (15-5) in the first round on Ultimate Fight Night 13 last month.
Edgar will be looking to bounce back from his first professional loss. At Ultimate Fight Night 13, “The Bully” Gray Maynard (5-0, 1 NC) won a UD over Edgar.

That has all the makings to be a legendary fight, Danzig & Guida both have stamina to burn.
I picked Danzig to win TUF, but I fancy Guida’s extra resolve in that one.
Wow they are not messing around with Danzig like they had with other TUF winners like bisping fighting nothing but cans.
A win over Guida will put Danzig into contention
Look how many fights Golden Boy Huerta had to fight before they risked him versus Guida. Fight of the Night, no doubt.
Sherk said he’s willing, able, and intent to fight in Minneapolis. Sherk versus Edgar?
Danzig is a vet that never really sparked the fuel around him. Its great to see him in these “real” fights. Lord knows he is a real fighter. A hell of an all around guy with a huge heart in and out of the ring.
Oooops, should have been joined with the above.
I do favor Guida in this match though. His odd movements, odd angles and unstoppable cardio will all serve him well against a very competent, though standardized Danzig.
If Danzig can deal with the Carpenters pace, and intensity and still keep his head to land, defend and take advantages, he most certainly is on his way from “unsparked” vet to man on fire.
I really like F. Edgar. Can’t wait to see who they match him with. Its also really great to see these lower weights carrying MMA right now. (in my opionion) At least for now the days of two giants lumbering into the ring and laying on each other is on pause. This is a great opportunity for MMA in general to show the real fireworks and flash.
