If you had to pick one of the fights on the UFC 160: Velasquez Vs Silva II bout list that wouldn’t make it past the first round, chances are you said it would be the co main event between Junior dos Santos and Mark Hunt. When you put two knockout artist in the octagon anything can happen. However, that’s not how it played out in their fight of the night performance.
It was the former UFC Heavyweight dos Santos who clipped Hunt with a right hand that sent him right down to his shoes. This strike, half way through the first round, would set the tempo for the rest of the fight. While Hunt did his fair share of landing heavy punches throughout the entire fight, it was dos Santos who was landing more of them going into the third round, and Hunt’s battered face told the story of the fight. In the third round, dos Santos was landing his jab at will on Hunt, and Hunt had no answer for them whatsoever. In the closing minute of the third round, dos Santos landing a spinning back kick to the head of Hunt who toppled over. Dos Santos closed the distance and finished him with one more strike that put the heavyweight out cold.
The win earned Dos Santos a shot at UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez who was victorious in his fight over Antonio Bigfoot Silva. At the post fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said the third fight between Velasquez and Dos Santos would happen before December, but no date was mentioned.
