Cain Velasquez: “I knew what I had to do – get the win, not defend the belt.”

UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez made it clear he is on a different level than most of his peers by once again pasting Antonio Silva in the opening round of a rumble. Velasquez, who beat Silva is similarly dominant fashion last year, came away without a single scrape at UFC 160 thanks to a 90 second smashing of “Bigfoot”. The win improved his career mark to 12-1 and was his tenth TKO.

Velasquez spoke about the win with Fuel TV shortly after the card’s conclusion, saying the championship meant little to him in comparison to the feeling of exiting the Octagon with his hand raised.

“His game plan was to stay on the feet. Mine was to keep moving, go up with the punches and down with the takedowns.”

“I knew what I had to do – get the win, not defend the belt. I just wanted to get the win.”
