Robbie Peralta will head to Brazil for his next UFC fight, taking on former Ultimate Fighter winner Rony Jason at UFC Fight Night: Miocic vs. Maldonado.

Peralta (17-4) is coming off a knockout victory over Estevan Payan and moved his Octagon record to 3-1 with one no-contest. Since 2009, Peralta has lost just once in his last 11 fights.

In taking on Jason (14-4), who won the first season of TUF: Brazil, Peralta knows he has an opportunity to make a name for himself by getting his hand raised. The two are expected to be part of the main card on May 31.

“I am excited for this fight,” said Peralta, during a recent interview with FightLine. “I know he has a big name out there in Brazil and is a tough opponent that can bump me up the rankings with a victory over him, so I’m excited about it and looking forward to going to war with him.”

Peralta trains out of California and Team Xplode MMA. The 28-year-old rebounded from a decision loss to Akira Corassani by dominating Payan for two rounds before finishing him in the third last December.

“Problems” has made a habit out of taking fights around the world. He began his MMA career in 2007 in Mexico, and has fought in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, England and Sweden since – the last two coming for the UFC.

“It’s gonna be a good experience to go visit the country of Brazil and I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “But really, it doesn’t matter where it is at because the cage is still the same no matter where I go.”

In Jason, Peralta knows he’ll be facing a fighter that “is a bit explosive who comes after you.” In his career, Jason has scored five knockout and eight submission wins, including stoppages over Steven Siler and Sam Sicilia.

Peralta owns 13 knockouts and two more wins by submission of his 17 career victories.

“I’m definitely expecting it to be an exciting fight when we both meet an I know that it has the potential to be a ‘Fight of the Night’ performance from our fighting styles,” Peralta said. “I’m pumped for this fight, as the fans should be, too. They will be in for a show and can expect an all-out-war in the cage.

“They’ll definitely be up on their feet and on the edge of their seats when we meet.”

Peralta knows how important a win can be, especially with the current state of the 145-pound weight class. For now, though, he’s focusing just on Jason.

“The featherweight division is so stacked with a lot of great, talent and fighters, and I know it’s gonna be a tough road up ahead, but I feel like I can be right there among the top contenders and one day earn my shot at the belt,” he said. “I do think there’s a good chance to beat Rony and move myself up into the Top-15 and earn my way into a Top-10 fight soon.

“But I’m just taking it one fight at a time and not gonna overlook anybody, because anything can happen in that cage. Getting past Rony is my only goal right now.”
