Alexis Davis Working With World Champions On Defending The Armbar

Alexis Davis doesn’t see herself getting psyched out before locking up with Ronda Rousey this July at UFC 175. The two will meet for Rousey’s female bantamweight title in Las Vegas.

Last week, Davis appeared on “Inside MMA” to discuss her championship match. She is coming off a victory over Jessica Eye that marked her fifth-straight win. The 29-year-old (16-5) is a perfect 3-0 since signing with the UFC, holding wins over one-time contender Liz Carmouche and Rosi Sexton.

“Having someone mean mug me across the Octagon doesn’t scare me,” Davis said. “She is a great fighter and I respect her.”

Davis stated that Eye, who she defeated via decision in February, tried to do win the fight in the staredown, as well. Rousey has become known for her ability to seemingly look through her opponent.

Since a 2012 majority decision loss to former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman, the Canadian has been perfect. She submitted Hitomi Akano and Shayna Baszler while fighting for Invicta FC before joining the UFC. Baszler is a teammate of Rousey’s and a member of their female “Four Horsewomen” stable.

As for defending against Rousey’s patented armbar, Davis doesn’t believe that should be a problem either.

“This is something I train constantly every day,” she said. “She has been training it judo for so long, but I have been training mixed martial arts for a long time. I train with world champions. Black belts armbar me every day.

“I am not afraid to say that, but I defend them more often than I get (submitted).”
