The two featherweight notables will be meeting at UFC 133, which takes place on August 6th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In his last outing, Brown was pitted against Jiu-Jitsu ace Rani Yahya. Mike, a touted wrestler with some serious punching power, the match seemed tailor made for his style. However, Yahya was able to out grapple Brown over the course of three-rounds and ultimately walked away with the decision this past January.
Brown had taken the fight on just a few weeks notice before Rani’s original opponent Chan Sung Jung had bowed out due to injury. Prior to the January 22nd bout with the Brazilian, Mike was on the heels of another bout inside the octagon when he met with Diego Nunes at UFC 125 on the January 1st. Inevitably Brown had lost the bout via split-decision, and will now be riding a two-fight losing streak heading into his upcoming match-up with Phan.
Nam, already a favorite amongst most fans, is coming off of an exciting and controversial performance against Leonard Garcia last December. At “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale” in Las Vegas, Nam out-boxed a forward plodding Garcia. To everyone in attendance, the decision looked to be decidedly in favor of Phan, however Leonard was awarded the victory by a puzzling split-decision. Ultimately, both men were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors, and UFC President Dana White treated the performance turned in by Phan as a win, and additionally awarded him his winning purse as well.
Both Mike and Phan are adept strikers, however Brown may hold the advantage in wrestling, though that will remain to be seen. So, MMA peeps, what do you think of the match-up? Who do you favor? Sound off in the comment section below.

Great matchup, should be a pretty technical fight.
With regard to: “and UFC President Dana White treated the performance turned in by Phan as a win, and additionally awarded him his winning purse as well”
Holy crap, that’s the most honorable thing I’ve ever hard of Dana White (or any fight promoter) doing. I respect that move so much.
