Bellator’s debut run on Spike TV resulted in some tremendous tilts and record-setting ratings for the rapidly growing MMA organization. When the company returns to the network’s airwaves next month for the Summer Series, fans can expect more of the same based on the lineup for Bellator 96.
The June 19 show features lightweight champion Michael Chandler putting his gold up for grabs against Season 8 tournament winner Dave Jansen. Chandler holds an overall record of 11-0 including wins over Rick Hawn and Eddie Alvarez, while Jansen is 19-2 with ten submissions to his credit.
Also on tap for the Oklahoma offering, the opening round of a four-man light heavyweight tourney will unfold. On one side of the bracket, Mo Lawal will lock horns with Seth Petruzelli, while Renato Sobral will square off against Jacob Noe on the other. Welterweight War Machine will also see action, facing Blas Avena in another main card clash.
“I’m excited to get back in the cage and defend the belt against a tough guy like Jansen. He’s proven to be a very tough and durable competitor. My plan is the same as every fight, which is to show up new and improved and collect another dominant finish for the fans.” – Michael Chandler
“Seth has been in this game for a long time and has beaten guys like Kimbo Slice, Ricco Rodriguez and Dan Severn so this fight is going to be tough, but I’ve been working my ass off in the gym with Jeff Mayweather and my team and I’m ready to get another win under my belt. Point blank, I’m looking to deliver a straight Mortal Kombat style fatality to Seth.” – Mo Lawal
