Daniel Cormier Would “Impose Will” In Fight With Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier pushed hard for a title fight vs. Jon Jones following UFC 172, asking the light heavyweight champion directly if he would accept.

While Jones is scheduled to meet Alexander Gustafsson first, and Cormier has a May fight lined up with Dan Henderson, that didn’t stop the unbeaten and former Olympian from breaking down his possible future foe on FOX Sports 1.

“I think what I have to do is impose my will on him,” Cormier said. “I have to press him against the cage and bully him. But I have to tell Jones that I’m a bigger man than him and put some doubt in him.”

Jones has had little trouble using his own skills against everyone the UFC throws at him, and he would have a decisive reach advantage vs. Cormier like he did in his most recent win over Glover Teixeira.

For Cormier, though, his pre-fight training is what he believes would put him over the edge in a fight with “Bones.”

“I train harder than him with someone named (UFC heavyweight champion) Cain Velasquez,” Cormier said. “I have to go and fight into that style.”

When asked by “DC” about a fight, Jones rolled his eyes and responded, saying, “Let me enjoy my victory. I’m pretty sure you have a fight scheduled so you better focus on it. You have to give each performance your absolute attention.”
