Tonight marked the dawning of a new era in American MMA with the unveiling of Invicta FC 1, a show built around pushing female fighters including some of the top names in the sport such as Jessica Penne, Liz Carmouche, and crown jewel Marloes Coenen.
The former Strikeforce champion served as one part of this evening’s headlining tilt with Romy Ruyssen attempting to play spoiler. Other match-ups on the card included Carmouche vs. Ashleigh Curry and Penne vs. Lisa Ellis-Ward. Kaitlin Young, Sarah D’Alelio, and debuting Olympic wrestler Randi Miller in action at the event.
Coenen cruised to victory behind her superior grappling and more-polished stand-up, even landing some solid elbows from above. The Golden Glory product earned her 20th career with the showing, even going so far as to call out Ronda Rousey after the match-up had concluded.
The headliner of Invicta FC 2 was also announced during the evening with Olympic wrestler Sara McMann taking on Shayna Baszler on July 28.
