UFC 129 Complete Collection Part 5 Of 12: Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome back to my special twelve-part series entitled “ufc 129 Complete Collection”. This series aims to take an ultra in-depth look at all twelve scheduled fights of the upcoming UFC 129 card. In a landmark move, the UFC is making all the fights available to fight fans, whether it’s through Facebook, Spike TV, or Pay-Per-View. And since UFC 129 is shaping up to be one of the best MMA events of the year, I think the least I can do is give each and every fight the attention it deserves. For the previous entry in the series, click here. Now it’s time to focus on the final free preliminary fight that will be available on the UFC’s Facebook page: Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts.
And just in case you forgot, I’m covering the fights using the UFC’s official ordering of UFC 129, which can be found here. And in case you forgot the following as well, I like to begin this series by putting the upcoming fight into context. So let’s dive right in.
Claude Patrick has competed as a professional Mixed Martial Artist for over nine years, and in that span of time he’s accumulated a great record of 13-1. A native Canadian that spent most of his career fighting in Canada, Patrick debuted in the UFC back in June of last year. “The Prince” would go on to win his UFC debut via second-round submission. Patrick then fought at UFC 120 in England back in October of last year, and earned a three-round Unanimous Decision win against James Wilks, the winner of the ninth season of the popular UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter”.
Daniel Roberts has competed in professional MMA for a little over three years, but in that time he’s compiled a record of 12-1. Like many hot prospects, Roberts earned his shot in the UFC by competing many times throughout the year and finishing most of his opponents. Roberts competed four times in 2010, and ended the year inside the Octagon with a UFC record of 2-1, with one performance earning him a “Submission of the Night” award. “Ninja” had his last fight in January of this year, and would end up winning by a very impressive first-round Kimura.
Looking at this fight, I think it’s going to be great because both men mirror each other in so many ways. They’re both young (both are 30), they’re both very athletic, and they both love to submit people. Combined, Patrick and Roberts have caused eighteen men to quit due to submissions. If it goes to the ground, we’ll be in for a real treat.
The two things I think Claude Patrick clearly has in his favor are closely tied together. One: he has three (T)KO victories on his record. Two: Daniel Roberts lost his UFC debut via KO. With that said, it’s obvious that Patrick should have a striking advantage, although how significant that advantage may be is anyone’s guess, because Daniel Roberts seems to be improving on a per-fight basis.
Overall, I think it’s going to be a tough, close fight, and it should serve as a fitting end to what should be one great Facebook broadcast.
And that’s what I think about that fight, fans and friends. Stay tuned, there’s still plenty more “UFC 129 Complete Collection” to come. And what about you? Any thoughts on this match-up?
