Polarizing pugilist Chael Sonnen will clock in on the scale this weekend at 205 pounds for the first time in years, taking his talents to the light heavyweight division after an extended run as a 185er. However, despite his time away from 205, Sonnen received a title-shot and will do his best to pull off a major upset by beating Jon Jones.
If Sonnen loses at UFC 159, as expected, he understands he isn’t likely to receive another crack at a championship. Sonnen spoke about the matter with MMAJunkie where he admitted he has a stiff test in front of him this weekend with stakes as high as they come.
“I’ve watched very little of his tapes because every time you watch Jon, he’s kicking somebody’s (butt). It wasn’t doing a lot for me. I would have far more compliments than I would have insults about him. But I’ve got my skills too. I’ve been at this a long time.”
“You can’t retire without a world title. You can just quit. I’ve never thought about quitting. I’ve never thought past this fight. Everything’s on the line.”
