Mark Munoz matched with Chris Weidman for UFC on Fuel 4 headliner

Rumor became fact last night when the UFC revealed a middleweight bout between Mark Munoz-Chris Weidman had been tabbed as the main event for UFC on Fuel 4. The 185ers had been linked together for weeks prior to the organization’s official announcement with Munoz even admitting a fight seemed likely given the buzz.

Their headlining tilt is set for July 11 though no location is in place. Other match-ups expected on the card include Jon Fitch-Aaron Simpson and Brandon Vera-James Te Huna.

The 12-2 Munoz has been shelved since November with an elbow injury costing him a February crack at contendership against Chael Sonnen. Prior to the affliction he’d won four straight including a strike-based stoppage of Chris Leben.

Munoz Feels He Matches Up Well with Weidman

Meanwhile, Weidman is 8-0 thus far in his career since transitioning to MMA after a decorated run as a collegiate wrestler. His biggest win to date came at the same show Munoz withdrew from, outpointing Demian Maia on extremely short notice when Maia’s original opponent (Michael Bisping) was inserted into the vacancy created by Munoz’s absence.
