Though he’s widely considered to be among the top three featherweights in MMA, Japanese grappler Hatsu Hioki will not in fact be next in line for a shot at UFC champion Jose Aldo’s divisional title. Many fans felt he’d earned the right with his recent outpointing of Bart Palaszewski though Hioki himself seemed unsure about mixing it up with the explosive Aldo.
Instead, Hioki will face Ricardo Lamas this summer as part of the lineup for UFC on FX 4. The June 22 bout has been confirmed by UFC officials.
The 28-year old Hioki holds an overall record of 26-4-2 with half of his wins coming by way of submission. He has won six straight since coming up short in a Split Decision against Michihiro Omigawa and has never been finished in his career.
Comparably, Lamas is 11-2 including a pair of wins inside the Octagon. He was last seen choking out Cub Swanson in November with an Arm-Triangle Choke.
