UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has said he intends to retire from MMA if he isn’t granted a second shot at beating Georges St-Pierre or an opportunity to face Anderson Silva. Though both scenarios are highly unlikely to become reality, it looks like Diaz has another option out there if he’s so inclined.
According to a report on UFC Tonight, Demian Maia is interested in squaring off with the Stockton native at UFC 163. The event is scheduled for August 3 in Rio de Janeiro, giving Maia a chance to compete in front of his fellow Brazilians.
Maia is 3-0 since moving down to 170 pounds from the middleweight division including wins over Rick Story, Dong Hyun Kim, and Jon Fitch. Comparably, Diaz holds a career mark of 26-9 but has come up short in two straight tilts after having previously won eleven bouts in a row.
