Matt Grice vs. Ricardo Lamas set for UFC on Versus 4

A featherweight match-up has been added to the upcoming UFC on Versus 4 card.

The event will take place June 26 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The main-event of the evening will feature a pivotal welterweight match-up between one-time middleweight title challenger Nate Marquardt as he pares his way down a weight-class to take on powerhouse Anthony Johnson.

Also on the card, two former lightweight competitors will now meet in a lighter plane as WEC veteran Ricardo Lamas makes his UFC debut when he takes on fellow Zuffa veteran in Matt Grice, who makes his return to the promotion after a near two-year absence.

Lamas, a former lightweight contender in the WEC where he compiled a 5-2 record, is dropping down to the featherweight class for his UFC debut. It marks the first time that the heavy handed wrestler has seen 145-pounds in his mixed martial arts career, however Ricardo surely is looking to reinvent himself after his last outing, where he was upset by newcomer Yuri Alcantara. The Brazilian scored a first-round knockout over Lamas, who prior to the loss was riding a three-fight win streak heading into their December meeting.

Grice is faring better than Lamas, having successfully bounced back from a two-fight skid with a four-fight win streak of his own. Since being released from the UFC in July of 2009 after posting a 1-3 record inside the promotion, Matt has finished three of his last four opponents inside of the first-round, with only David Gardner, a veteran of DREAM, hanging with Grice for the full fifteen-minutes.

Now, both Grice and Lamas will likely be fighting to stay inside the Zuffa fold. Matt’s hoping to make good on his second-first impression while Ricardo, 28, now full and well that two-losses in a row could spell “walking papers” for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt.

So, MMA peeps, what do you think of the match-up? Who do you favor? Sound off in the comment section below.
