Chad Mendes expects to be next challenger to the UFC title

It’s no secret that Team Alpha Male has produced some of the best fighters in the world.

In fact, some of their notable fighters have gone on to become the top contenders in their division, dominating the lighter weight classes. Their ring leader, Urijah Faber, will be challenging for the ufc bantamweight title on July 2 at UFC 132.

Now, top prospect Chad Mendes is waiting for his shot at the belt, and hopes that he will have his chance at the title in the immediate future and he will be sitting cage side at UFC 129 on April 30 seizing up who he thinks he will be challenging next for the featherweight belt.

Mendes is undefeated so far in his career. With just five fights under his belt, and just 18-months experience, Mendes made his way into the WEC, defeating current contender Erik Koch in his debut in the organization. Victories over notables Cub Swanson and Javier Vazquez soon followed and in his UFC debut following the infamous merger, Mendes took on top-10 star in Japan’s own Michihiro Omigawa, handing the aggressive fighter his first loss in five fights, which included victories over Sengoku champion Hatsu Hioki, DREAM champion Hiroyuki Takaya, and former WEC champion Cole Escovedo.

So needless to say, Mendes certainly has the proper résumé to challenge for the belt, and he will be waiting to see the outcome of said bout between champion Jose Aldo as he takes on Mark Hominick in Toronto, Canada.

“I can tell you Chad will be sitting ringside in Toronto watching Aldo and Hominick fight, and he has all the hopes in the world that the winner of that will be his next fight. I believe he deserves it, I believe he’s ready for it, and I think it’s his time,” said Mike Roberts, Mendes’ manager who spoke with MMAWeekly.com about his fighter.

“He’ll be sitting front and center hoping to get that shot.”

So, MMA peeps, do you think Mendes deserves the next crack at the title, or do you see someone else more deserving? Does Chad need another win to challenge for the strap? Sound off in the comment section below.
