Coming off his second straight finish of a Top 10 bantamweight, UFC star Urijah Faber has set his sights on an eventual title-fight or, at minimum, a meeting with one of the two men who currently hold divisional gold – Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao. Cruz is the linear title-holder, sitting on the sidelines for more than a year due to injury, while Barao’s interim status doesn’t detract from his status as an elite competitor.
Faber has fought both men inside the Octagon and come up short on both occasions. Asked to pick which of the two he’d rather face in a rematch, “The California Kid” saw positives in either pairing and wasn’t able to whittle his answer down to one opponent in particular.
In a conversation captured by MMAJunkie, Faber explained…
“I’d rather punch Dominick in the face, but Barao is one of the guys who has earned his spot. The guy’s on the biggest win streak in UFC history, and I think it was an uneventful fight last time, and I’d like to make it more eventful. That means getting a little more crazy in there. He did a good job of slowing me down last time.”
“Dom actually moves a lot more but was actually easier for me to hit and do damage to than Barao. So I don’t know. It’s one of those things that I’ll probably fight both of them eventually anyway. I’m just going to kick back, relax and reminisce about the good old days with Scotty, and hopefully I’ll meet him in the finals for a belt one day too.”
Faber submitted Scott Jorgensen on Saturday night at the Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale to improve his overall record to 28-6.
